Tokyo Writer's Salon reviewing and critiquing work from 1-4pm in lounge room. hack/solder room still open for ths-members.
Just wanted to put this up as an official meeting to kick off the MJ concert project. The choreographer will be showing up and those interested in participating should really come down and meet him. He'll be talking about his ideas for how to integrate the clothing/lighting with dance and also outfits for Thriller and probably working on some actual samples.
The Personal Fabrication group is being started by Kenji Kurosawa with a goal of creating a FabLab in Japan similar to MIT's. The first meeting has people from Ikea Japan, JIDPO (Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization), and Keio Media Lab attending as well as others interested in personal fabrication.
Another new meeting for members of TWS. This one will focus on writing time and support for folks working on novels or short stories. Literary fiction, genre Fiction, all welcome. Once a month we will schedule writing time, and share resources. (and wine) So if you are in the process of writing that novel- be sure to join our new meeting. 1000 yen room and wine fee. rsvp either on this site or on the meetup group.

Poverty and poor nutrition are inevitable for the hacker. Long hours in front of the computer, coupled with snacks from the combini will do a number on anyone's intake of useful nutrients. Working in a big faceless company with incompetent old men in charge will more than ensure your poverty. Still, there's no reason to let that cramp your food!
Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which recently celebrated its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives.

The Electronics 101 class is your chance to learn the basics of electronic circuits from the pros. Even if you have no idea what a resistor is, or have never picked up a soldering iron before, you can do it all, with a just a little bit of help.
This class is perfect for absolute beginners. I have stripped it down to the bare essentials, making it perfect for young people or the technologically challenged! :)
This video stars Bre Pettis. Bre is NOT in Japan. He will not be at THS.
Stick around after Electronics 101 for a screening of Bre Pettis' (of NYCResistor/Makerbot - CupCake fame) pilot on the History channel, "History Hacker."
The show never got picked up by the Hitler (ahem History) channel, but it would have made a great show.
In the pilot, Bre explores the dynamic between Tesla and Edison.
Some hacks and projects included in the episode include:
Making a bicycle AC generator
Blowing glass bulbs
Exploring the Edison DC grid in New York
