Hand Rolled felting class, come learn the basics. 2-4pm
Wool fibers, soap, hot water, bubble wrap, and a stick. That's about all you need to make your own felt from scratch. Wool felt is one of the oldest fabrics known to man and one that is still produced by nomads and stylish textile designers today. In this workshop, you will get hands-on experience in the traditional method as you design and felt your own pouch out of merino wool. You will come away with an understanding of the textile's properties, discover modern interpretations of the technique, and even learn about Ghengis Khan's role in the legend of felt.
Merino wool and tools to be provided.
This workshop will be taught by Karin Ling whose collections of handmade felt accessories have been featured in design markets and boutiques in Paris, France.
Felt is a non-woven cloth that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing woollen fibres. While some types of felt are very soft, some are tough enough to form construction materials. Felt can be of any color, and made into any shape or size. Felt is the oldest form of fabric known to humankind. It predates weaving and knitting.
In the Western world, felt is widely used as a medium for expression in textile art as well as design, where it has significance as an ecological textile.
