02/20 - Arduino 101

02/20/2011 15:00
02/20/2011 17:00
Event Type:
Workshop

The Arduino is a micro-controller platform for entry level embedded systems applications.

Ok. Take two:

The Arduino is like a computer on a single chip. What makes it cool is that you can attach switches, lights, knobs, speakers, lasers, and monkeys to it.
Yes. Even monkeys. Or humans. Or.. well.. ANYTHING.

What makes it +6 awesome is that writing software for it is actually pretty easy (unlike other micro-controller platforms).

This class will introduce you to the Arduino hardware, as well as the software IDE.

Akihabara Video Guide and Map

ステータス:

Project lead:
psc

Patrick and I decided to take a day and film a ton of footage about different shops around Akihabara. We then compiled all the addresses and he generated Google map markers for them. After that, we added descriptions and links wherever possible and put up the page. You can see it here:

CANCELED!

THS Kids-tech is a summer camp for kids aged 12 to 16.

Kids will learn the basics of electronics through hands on projects that teach them about components, reading schematics, and building circuits.

Several projects are planned.
Kids will build and take home:
* their basic electronics kit
* EL wire flower night light
* Bug bot
* LED flash circuit

Additional projects may be planned.

Lunches are provided by catering service!
* Please notify us if your child has any special dietary needs *

Ages 12 to adult.

The Electronics 101 class is your chance to learn the basics of electronic circuits from the pros. Even if you have no idea what a resistor is, or have never picked up a soldering iron before, you can do it all, with a just a little bit of help.

This class is perfect for absolute beginners. I have stripped it down to the bare essentials, making it perfect for young people or the technologically challenged! :)

"History Hacker" screening, staring Bre Pettis

02/06/2010 17:00
Event Type:
Social

This video stars Bre Pettis. Bre is NOT in Japan. He will not be at THS.

Stick around after Electronics 101 for a screening of Bre Pettis' (of NYCResistor/Makerbot - CupCake fame) pilot on the History channel, "History Hacker."

The show never got picked up by the Hitler (ahem History) channel, but it would have made a great show.

In the pilot, Bre explores the dynamic between Tesla and Edison.

Some hacks and projects included in the episode include:
Making a bicycle AC generator
Blowing glass bulbs
Exploring the Edison DC grid in New York
